రావణుడి లంక భూమధ్యరేఖ పరిసర ప్రాంతంలో ఉండేదా?

రావణుడి లంక అందరు అనుకున్నట్లు ప్రస్తుతం భారతదేశానికి ప్రక్కనే ఉన్న శ్రీలంక కాదని,  భూమధ్యరేఖ పరిసర ప్రాంతంలో ఉండేదా? అని ప్రశ్నించుకుంటే శ్రీమద్రామాయణంలోని వర్ణన ప్రకారం నమ్మవలసి వస్తుంది!

శ్రీహనుమ సముద్రంపై 100 యోజనాలు దాటి లంకలో అడుగుపెట్టి, లంకలో సీత కొఱకు వెతుకుతున్నప్పుడు ఆయన గమనించిన అక్కడి ప్రకృతిని మహర్షి వాల్మికి ఇలా వర్ణిస్తాడు.

సంతతాన్ వివిధైర్వఋకై: సర్వర్తుఫలపుష్పితై: |
ఉద్యానాని చ రమ్యాణి దదర్శ కపికుంజర: ||    (సుందరకాండ 2వ సర్గ 13వ శ్లోకము)

"అన్ని ఋతువులయందును పుష్పించు, ఫలించు వృక్షములతో చుట్టును వ్యాప్తములైయున్న మిక్కిలి మనోహరములైన ఉద్యానవనములను ఆ  కపివరుడు దర్శించెను."

పుష్ప రత్న శతై: చిత్రం పంచమం సాగరం యథా |
సర్వ ఋతు పుష్పైర్ నిచితం పాదపైర్ మధు గంధిభి: ||   (సుందరకాండ 15వ సర్గ 13వ శ్లోకము)

"అసంఖ్యాకములైన పుష్పములనెడి రత్నములతోగూడిన ఆ వనము లంక చుట్టునుగల 4 సముద్రములకు తోడుగా ఐదవ రత్నాకరమువలె రాజిల్లుచుండెను.  అక్కడి వృక్షములు అన్ని ఋతువులలోను పుష్పించుచు కమ్మని సువాసనలను వెదజల్లుచుండెను."

ఆధునిక శాస్త్రజ్ఞుల పరిశోధన ప్రకారం భూమధ్యరేఖ పరిసరప్రాంతంలో అన్ని ఋతువులయందును పుష్పించు, ఫలించు వృక్షములు ఉంటాయని తెలుస్తోంది.

The various causes now enumerated are sufficient to enable us to understand how the great characteristic features of the climate of the equatorial zone are brought about; how it is that so high a temperature is maintained during the absence of the sun at night, and why so little effect is produced by the sun's varying altitude during its passage from the northern to the southern tropic.

As a result of this condition of the earth and atmosphere, there is no check to vegetation, and little if any demarcation of the seasons. Plants are all evergreen; flowers and fruits, although more abundant at certain seasons, are never altogether absent; while many annual food-plants as well as some fruit-trees produce two crops a year. In other cases, more than one complete year is required to mature the large and massive fruits, so that it is not uncommon for fruit to be ripe at the same time that the tree is covered with flowers, in preparation for the succeeding crop.

1 యోజనం = 13 కిలోమీటర్లు (రమారమి)

కాబట్టి శ్రీహనుమ ఆధునిక గణనం ప్రకారం, రమారమి 1,300 కిలోమీటర్లు ఆకాశ మార్గంలో ప్రయాణించి, రావణుని లంక చేరినట్లు అర్థమవుతుంది.
